Work resumes in commercial city of Kano after New Year holiday
Business and other socio-economic activities have resumed in the commercial city of Kano, after the holidays declared to celebrate the Christian annual festival of Christmas and New Year.
Hundreds of workers in all the Federal and State Establishments in the state were seen in the early hours of Tuesday trooping back to their offices to kick start their official functions.
As at 9 am, BusinessDay observed that most of the public workers of the Kano offices of the Federal Ministries, Department, and Agencies (MDAs) whose offices are situated at the Federal Secretariat along Katsina Road, were at their duty post.
Also at the Audu Bako Secretariat which housed most of the MDAs of the Kano State Government, most of the civil servants were also seen at their respective duty posts, attending to state functions.
Most of the private business establishments, such as banks, and others which are situated mostly in the Business District of Murtala Mohammed Way, Post Office Road, and Bello Road are fully opened for business.
The only business segment that is yet to resume is the public and private schools, at are expected to resume next Monday 9th of January.
Commenting on the atmosphere in the two festival were celebrated in the city, Prince Ajayi Memayitan, a Kano based Community Leader, described the immediate past festivals as the most peaceful in the recent times.
“We thank the Almighty God for the peaceful environment which we mark the two festival in Kano, this is the first time in many years that we really experienced a peaceful celebration.
“In the past the celebration of Christmas and New Year in the state is always characterized by one form of crisis or the other, but this time it was peace all along, and we thank God for this.
“Thanks also go to the Governor of the state, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje for creating improved atmosphere that led to the peaceful celebration. The Security and Military Agencies also needed to praise for providing adequate security” He noted.
Our correspondent, who observed that this year festivity was celebrated under a very peaceful and cordial atmosphere, as there no single case of security incidence throughout the celebration.
