Apapa Customs’ revenue profile falls 48% below N234bn target

Out of a total of N234 billion six months revenue target given to the Apapa Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the command said it was able to generate the sum of N121 billion into the federation and non-federation accounts between January and June this year.

According to its half-year performance report, the command, which is supposed to be generating N39 billion monthly amounting to N234 billion, recorded a loss of N113 billion, which is 48 percent of the total target.

A breakdown of the statistics shows that the command collected N20.8 billion in January, N19.8 billion in February, N18.6 billion in March, N20 billion in April, N19.8 billion in May (as against N24.6 billion collected in May 2012), and N21 billion in June (as against N36.7 billion for June 2012).

Emmanuel Ekpa, public relations officer of the command, blamed decline in the volume of importation into the country in the beginning of the year for the inability of the command to meet its half-year target.
