C&I Leasing, Svitzer sign MoU to provide terminal support tugs

C&I Leasing plc is collaborating with Svitzer, a unit of Maersk Group, to obtain a contract with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (Nigeria LNG) for terminal support tugs and pilot vessels.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two companies, Svitzer is expected to provide assistance for setting up a simulator-based training centre in C&I Leasing’s Port Harcourt office, as well as provide access to cutting-edge proprietary vessel management and operational software so as to enhance skills of its staff and improve reliability and availability.

Svitzer is the world’s largest towage and salvage company, with a fleet of over 500 vessels that operate in over 40 countries, including Nigeria where it provides support for 20 LNG terminals with 76 tugs and 35 support vessels.

With over 30,000 LNG tanker assistances since 1993, Svitzer is responsible for over 60 percent of LNG tanker assists worldwide.

C&I Leasing is one of the leading Nigerian content players in the offshore marine vessel operation, and it has a fleet of 14 vessels that include terminal tugs, patrol vessels, fast support intervention vessels and a platform support vessel.

The company is currently the only equipment leasing and logistics company listed on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange. This represents a significant step in its efforts to compete more aggressively in supporting the Federal Government’s Local Content initiative.
