Speaking at the seminar, Bambo Ademiluyi, the president Centre for Marine Surveyors Nigeria, said that the objective of the lecture is to pupularise the profession of Marine Surveying in Nigeria.

“The essence of this programme is to popularize Marine Surveying for fresh graduates in our Universities and Technical Colleges and also Marine professionals. Our campaign will definitely be extended to these institutions in future so as to ensure proper early training for Marine Surveyors who will operate within the confines of the code of conduct of Marine Surveyors.”

He applauded the Federal Governments efforts on Marine Surveying Act.

“We thank the Federal Government of Nigeria for the Nigerian Content Development Management Board Act.”

He however frown that some regulatory agencies refusal to comply with the Act.

“The Act is supposed to be catalyst for the exploration in the growth of the indigenous Marine Surveying practices, but some regulatory agencies and operating companies, especially the Exploration and Production companies are still not complying enough. There is need for the regulatory agencies to look deeply at the vendors being used by companies and ensure Nigerians get the benefit of the provision of this Act.”

He finally advised the banks and financial institution to engage the services of certified and licensed surveyors for pre-purchase surveys of vessels to avoid the purchase of non-functioning vessels.
