CRFFN lists membership guidelines, subscription fees
The Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (CRFFN) has released its membership registration guidelines as well as annual subscription fees. According to the release, persons wishing to become members of the council are expected to make a monetary commitment, which varies according to level of membership.
CRFFN is the regulatory body of the freight forwarding profession, established with the core aim of determining the persons or cases of persons who constitute freight forwarders; determining the standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to be registered as freight forwarders and raising those standards from time to time in accordance with international industry practice; and regulating as well as controlling the practice of freight forwarding.
The council also regulates and controls all the associations of freight forwarding agents; regulates and controls persons who are engaged in freight forwarding; and ensures uniform standards of professional conduct and education relevant to freight forwarding practice.
The registration fees are as follow: staff freight forwarder is expected to pay N7,500 if the person is a Nigerian, while a non-Nigerian counterpart will pay N15,000. An executive Nigerian freight forwarder is required to pay the sum of N15,000 as a registration fee, while a non-Nigerian counterpart will pay N30,000.
Also, a Nigerian-owned freight forwarding company is expected to register with N25,000, while a non-Nigerian counterpart is required to pay N50,000; and a Nigerian freight forwarding service provider is expected to register with N20,000, as against N40,000 for a non-Nigerian counterpart.
In terms of annual subscription, the fees are as follows: Nigerian and staff freight forwarder, N10,000; non-Nigerian staff freight forwarder, N20,000; Nigerian executive freight forwarder, N20,000; non-Nigerian executive freight forwarder, N40,000. Furthermore, Nigerian-owned freight forwarding companies will pay annual dues of N30,000, while a non-Nigerian counterpart will pay N60,000; a Nigerian freight forwarding service provider is to pay annual dues of N25,000, while a non-Nigerian counterpart will pay N50,000.
According to the association, registered CRFFN practitioners shall consist of individuals, corporate organisations in the private sector and other similarly qualified persons in the public and private sectors. These persons and companies must have principal place of business in Nigeria and must carry on the business of freight forwarding in the standard set by the CRFFN as means for achieving the CRFFN goals and aims.
