Kano ICD to take off in 2014, says Ahmad Rabiu
In line with the dream of Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) to commence the full operation of three of its six Inland Container Depots in the six geo-political zones of the country, Kano dry port will commence operation in January 2014.
Ahmad Rabiu, chairman, Dala Inland Dry Port Limited, promoters of Kano ICD, said the take-off of the operation would become effective if the Federal Government declares it a port of origin and a port of destination, adding that the declaration would also enable the foreign technical partners to move down to Nigeria and complete the remaining aspects of construction work.
He said it would take about six months to complete the technical aspect of the dry port for full operations to commence. The port, which will function like the Tin-Can Island and Apapa Ports, will take about 20,000 TEUs of containers.
Speaking on how far the port has gone, he said the company just started work on the site and has not gone far with the construction, adding, however, “We are working to ensure that within a matter of six months, we are ready and will commence full operation.”
