LCCI appeals to FG on cargo clearing at Apapa Port
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday said the replacement of Cotecna Destination Inspection Ltd. as a service provider at the Apapa Port, Lagos, had created gaps in cargo clearing.
In a statement in Lagos, the chamber’s director general, Muda Yusuf, said the replacement had resulted in delay in scanning containers and other activities, leading to more congestion at the port.
However, an official of the Global Scansystems Ltd. (GSL), which replaced Cotecna, has debunked the allegation, saying that the company had lived up to expectations.
Yusuf had said in the statement that the Federal Government’s efforts in ensuring cargo clearance within 48 hours were being frustrated by the replacement of Cotecna.
A copy of the statement was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the situation was impacting negatively on the private sector and Nigeria’s economy at large.
