Maersk Line signs supplier partnership deal with Unilever

Maersk Line, a leading global shipping company, has signed a long-term business development plan with Unilever in order to help the company sustain its business growth.

The business plan, which outlines the companies’ joint commitments and priorities for the next three years, not only allows Unilever and Maersk Line to grow businesses together, but also includes specific commitments at the lowest possible cost to the environment, said Thomas Riber Knudsen, Maersk Line chief executive for the Asia Pacific region.

He disclosed this while receiving Unilever’s recognition for delivering outstanding service, which has aided the company’s business growth. The ‘Partner to Win’ recognition was given to Maersk Line at Unilever Supplier Summit held recently in Singapore to discuss the global sustainable growth and unlock the business potential of developing and emerging markets.

Receiving the award, Knudsen said it was a result of Maersk Line’s hard work. While Unilever plans to grow their business, they would also like to reduce their environmental footprint and improve their social impact.

Addressing delegates, Pier Luigi Sigismondi, chief supply chain officer of Unilever, said the company’s business has grown by €10 billion since 2009 despite the challenging economic conditions. This he attributed to the investment made by its strategic supplier partners in increased capacity, innovation, delivery and sustainable solutions together with Unilever.
