NIMASA remits N9.7bn into federation account in 2014
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) says it has so far remitted over N9.7 billion into the Federation Account this year, an amount which falls into the agency’s 2014 operating surplus.
Patrick Akpobolokemi, director-general, NIMASA, confirmed this in a press statement signed by Isichei Osamgbi, deputy director, public relations, of the agency. He said the figures in recent media reports were not in consonance with what had been recorded with the Federal Ministry of Finance.
According to him, NIMASA has been up-to-date in making remittances to the Federation Account, and this year’s is way above its projection.
“NIMASA is mindful of the critical role which financial resources play in actualising the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and has, therefore, continued to contribute its statutory quota towards making the government’s programmes a reality,” he said.
He noted that the agency was committed to actualising its mandate working with more advanced technology, like the recently launched Satellite Surveillance System that is capable of monitoring, in real time, vessel activities in the country’s maritime domain.
