Recent press reports have given the impression that there is an ongoing power tussle by some management staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) over the position of acting managing director/chief executive of the Agency.

According to the report issued to BusinessDay Wednesday by Olajumoke Adetona, acting general manager, public affairs, NAMA in Lagos, “the deliberately planted reports are a complete figment of the imagination of the authors, who maliciously hope to profit from the confusion the false reports are capable of causing.

“As soon as the Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation became aware that some top officials of the Agency (including the MD/CE) had been held by the EFCC, he personally visited the Agency on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, and gave clear directives to Emmanuel Anasi (acting director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services) to oversee the affairs of the Agency for the time being.”

Adetona said at no time thereafter did any management staff seek to contest or dispute the clear directives of the minister with regard to the interim leadership of the Agency.

The management therefore appealed to the media that in line with the ethics of their profession to always endeavour to verify information being dished out to the general public to avert the panic and confusion such false reports were capable of generating.

“We hereby wish to assure the general public that NAMA remains fully engaged in the diligent performance of its statutory duties and responsibilities, and there is no threat whatsoever to the safety of our air space,” she said.
