Tin-Can Customs trains officers ahead of full implementation of NICIS
In preparation to the full automation of Customs processes through the implementation of the advanced Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System II (NICIS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island command has conducted a training session to keep its officers up to date with features of the automated process.
Bashar Yusuf, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, who declared the training session open, said that the training was to prepare officers on NICIS II, a major tool for trade facilitation, and also advised the officers to take advantage of the training to improve their capacity to discharge their functions.
According to him, the course curriculum was carefully articulated to cover vast areas in the 21st Century Customs Operations in line with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) standards.
While commending Hameed Ali, Comptroller-General of Customs for creating the training platform, Bashar said that the training would equip the officers with competency to handle trade transaction documents; view transaction documents; use of the document finder operation among others.
The Course also aimed at equipping the participants with good knowledge of awareness of NICIS operations; how to access the NICIS applications; user profile menu elements; user’s ID maintenance and among others.
The CAC also reinstated his commitment to the actualisation of the core mandates of the command. “The training and re-training of our officers have resulted in the high revenue being generated by the command despite the low volume of cargo traffic.”
He further said that his resolve to engage stakeholders have provided an opportunity for the exchange of quality opinions between the command and the various stakeholders for the actualisation of official optimal results.
The controller charged the trading public to ensure honest declarations, even as he assured that the Service will continue to facilitate legitimate trade in line with global best practices. “It is the wish of the Area Controller to sustain our benchmark rating, especially in relation to the achievements of last year, when the CG sent four different commendation letters to the Tin-Can Customs.”
