Ghana Gas Company increases capacity to process more gas
The Ghana Gas Company says it is upgrading its infrastructure to enhance the capacity to receive all the gas from the Jubilee Field for processing. The development is expected to help improve the country’s current energy challenge.
George Sipa Yankey, chief executive, Ghana Gas, dismissed the notion that excess gas may have to be flared due to the lack of capacity adding that Ghana Gas has more capacity to process gas from the current facilities.
“When the Tweneboa-Enyenra Ntomme (TEN) and what we call ‘the Greater Jubilee’ comes on stream that will increase the amount of gas to about 250 million standard cubic feet of gas. The second train will take all the gas from TEN and Jubilee,” said Yankey.
According to Dr. Yankey, Ghana Gas is expecting the new train which when added to the existing infrastructure, will give the company a total capacity of 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
“Ghana Gas is currently working on the second ‘train’ which will be ready before the TEN gas becomes available. So we are also preparing ourselves to be able to take the extra gas and process it,” said Yankey.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned 4 helicopters to police the Ghana Gas project and ensure adequate security on the nation’s onshore pipelines.
The four Z-9 EH helicopters which would be operated by the Ghana Airforce will among other things ensure that the $1 billion Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is protected.
“This four new jet 9 helicopters is historic because it represents a unique collaboration of two state institutions, the Ghana National Gas Company and the Ghana Airforce. The helicopters are meant for Ghana Gas pipeline surveillance, security of oil installations and allied operations but will be maintained and operated by the Ghana Airforce,” Mahama said.
“The helicopter would assist in general security of all oil installations and our offshore oil fields and I am happy because it will enhance our maritime security, our anti-piracy operations rebound casualty and medical evacuations, search and rescue operations, aerial photography and riot control,” the President added.
The commissioning of the helicopters comes just a week after President Mahama inaugurated the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.
