Hope rises for modular refinery in Akwa Ibom State
There is a growing likelihood of a modular refinery in Akwa Ibom State as an emerging market in the Gulf of Guinea with huge potentials for investments in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the economy.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who gave the indication in Uyo, the state capital during an interaction said his administration has commenced discussions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the construction of the refinery based on Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
According to him, the various steps taken by the NNPC were in the overall interest of the country adding that the Federal Government should be supported on the direction of the ongoing reforms in the petroleum industry.
He said the dividends of the numerous groundbreaking undertaken by his administration would soon be seen noting that the engagements of the state government have been based on due process, payment of compensation and environmental impact assessment report to meet international best practices.
“We are out to do exactly what we promised the people in the provision of steady supply of electricity,’’ he said.
On projects inherited by his administration, he said the Four Point Hotel in Ikot Ekpene was awaiting furnishing adding that a water transport scheme was also underway in the state.
On the deplorable of Itu-Calabar highway, the only link road between Akwa Ibom and Cross River, he said his administration has written to the Federal Government for approval to partner with investors in the construction of the road for subsequent toll collection.
