IPMAN committed to end fuel scarcity in Kaduna
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said on Wednesday the current fuel scarcity in Kaduna State would end within one week.
“This is because the Federal Government has shown commitment to end the fuel scarcity across the country,” said Saleh Shehu, the IPMAN Spokesperson.
”I am assuring people that before the week runs out, the product will be available and the scarcity will be a history.”
“Any filling station that is found selling the product above the official rate of N87 will be sanctioned. The official price must be respected by all members,” he said.
Reports showed that Kaduna residents have continued to witness long queues at filling stations due to the scarcity of products in the state.
The scarcity of the commodity resurfaced in the state in November 2014 and has continued since then, with only a few outlets selling the product at the official price of N87 per litre.
Motorists who spoke at some filling stations, said that while some stations dispensed the petrol at the official price of N87 per litre, others, especially on the outskirts of Kaduna city sell at between N110 and N120 per litre.
A motorist, Jacob Haruna, said he spent seven hours of the queue before getting the service at the official price.
“Nigeria is the 6th largest producer of petroluem products in the world but stil,l we experience fuel scarcity, it is unfortunate.”
“President Muhammadu Buhari should overhaul the petroluem Industry so as to have sanity.” he said.
Another motorist, Yusuf Bala, said he bought the product at official rate at Edi-Jen Filling Station , but noted that outside Kaduna town, the product was sold at N120.
Bala described the situation as “devilish” and called for the intervention of the relevant government agencies.
For Yohana Bitrus, waiting on the queue was not easy, “so I bought the product at N130 per litre.”
“I can’t wait long to buy fuel in the filling station that was why I had to buy from black market to save my time”, he said.
