Lekki refinery to create 8,000 jobs, says Fashola
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says that the Lekki refinery being undertaken by the Dangote Group in Lagos would create no fewer than 8,000 jobs while about 2,000 engineers would also be employed to run the refinery when completed. He stated this when he led Akin Ambode, the governorship candidate of the APC, in the state to Lekki in continuation of the statewide political rally, saying the state under him has created enabling environment for businesses and that Ambode would continue on that path.
The governor also urged Lagosians not to be intimidated by the presence of soldiers and police in their neighbourhoods on election day, adding that the law enforcement agents also yearning for change would not fight against the people since they are badly affected by the economic policies of the Federal Government. “Firstly, don’t sell your PVCs. On election day, troop out and vote. Soldiers can’t tell you not to vote. Soldiers are equally hungry; they are not comfortable but they also managing. Their wives are hungry, they don’t provide for them too. Soldiers are equally affected by the devaluation of the naira against dollar. Police are not paid, this government is fraudulent.”
According to him, the PDP-led Federal Government had taken the nation backward in the last sixteen years, adding that the Federal Government is fond of fooling Nigerians on crucial issues that affect the lives of the citizens. He blamed the economic woes on the policies of the government, noting that with the devaluation of the naira, Nigerians would now have to pay higher before they embark on pilgrimage to Mecca for Hajj operation.
Fashola added that those embarking on pilgrimage to Jerusalem would also pay almost double of what they paid last year for the same exercise.“When I became governor, the dollar was trading at N115, in less than 8 years, the dollar is now trading at almost N230 and we are importing. You see if we are exporting a lot of goods, it would have been good for young people because economic teaches you that you devalue in order to stimulate export of your own good, so that you can keep your industries running so that young people can have work. But you can’t devalue if you are an importer.
“Those of you who are going to Hajj and Jerusalem, you should be ready to pay more than the money you paid last year. Almost times two of what you used to pay. This government said they have given you electricity, is it true? This government has lied about every issue that concerns your lives.”
