NNPC/Chevron boost gas supply with SONAM Topside NWP Well

Nigeria’s poor power supply will soon be a thing of the past as Chevron Nigeria Limited in partnership with NNPC accomplished its Sonam Non Associated Gas Well Platform (NWP) production Topside Module as part of the Domestic Supply Obligation (DSO) – MEREN Gas Gathering Compression Platform (GGCP).

The Sonam Non Associated Gas Well Project (NWP) is aimed at boosting the supply of gas to enhance the much needed power supply for Nigeria’s domestic and industrial consumption.

The Sonam project is expected to deliver a combined 420 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas to Chevron’ Excravos Gas Project which provides feedback for power generation, a major demand for Nigeria’s power sector.

The project will significantly eliminate gas flaring and attract massive gas investment opportunities thereby boosting the administration’s quest and effort to diversify the economy from total dependence on crude oil proceeds.

Commenting on the project, Clay Neff, Chairman and MD Chevron Nigeria Limited noted that the Sonam NAG Well platform will enable the delivery of up to 300 MMSCFD of gas from Sonam to the Escravos Gas Plant.

“This project will enable delivery of additional gas supply to the domestic market which will help to significantly boost the Nigerian economy,” said Neff.

Speaking at the ground breaking event, Anwar Jamarkani, the Chairman Nigerdock and Jagal Group said the company is delighted to be part of the achievement.

“We are truly humbled to to play part in such a landmark achievements which will no doubt have a transformative effect on our economy,” Jamarkani said.

Jamarkani further assured that Nigerdock is prepared to take more projects to enhance the productivity of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The Sonam project weighs 2,700 tons with a height of 28 metres and a length of 50 metres making the largest Topside Module ever built in Nigeria.
