Bayelsa, firms sign MoU on 100MW power project
Bayelsa State government and two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development of a 100 megawatts gas turbine power station to be delivered before the end of this year.
The new power station would be located at Imiringi, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state which already hosts the Bayelsa Electricity Company where the state generates power from its own gas turbine.
A government statement signed by Daniel Iworiso-Markson said Governor Seriake Dickson described the agreement with IPP Energy Limited and GMB Leasing Partners as validation of his administration’s quest to boost power supply and make the state an investment haven.
In spite of past efforts to boost electric power production through the state owned gas turbine, power has been limited until now with residents relying on Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and their personal generators.
The immediate past administration in the state had failed on its promises to be the first state in Nigeria to celebrate one year of uninterrupted power supply
