Eko DISCO decries increased vandalisation of equipment

The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Saturday decried the increase in the vandalisation of its equipment by vandals.

A statement by Godwin Idemudia, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications in Lagos, said the incidence was incapacitating the company from discharging its services  to its consumers.

“On Nov.16, a uniformed man with the assistance of some Community Development Area members at Muritala Muhammad Way, Ebute Meta, Yaba, arrested a cable vandal.

“The suspect identified as Abubakar Mohammed, caught  in the act was taken to Sabo Police Station.

“They also reported the case to our office at the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) injected substation at Yaba and to the Business Manager in Ijora.

“A follow up was made by the Security Department team, before the case was transferred, from Sabo Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CID) Panti for further investigation.

“Ironically, on Dec.2, another set of vandals was also arrested at  the same spot while they were still busy digging the ground to expose the cables.

“They were also handed to the same Sabo Police Station and their case was later transferred to the State CID, Panti” it stated.

The statement stated that the company’s legal department would ensure that the culprits were not left off the hook, but prosecuted alongside their buyers.

It, however, warned consumers within the network to protect all the company’s installation within their area.
