FG says will advance renewable energy to increase energy generation

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) says it will intensify effort on renewable energy to ensure energy is available, affordable and accessible in the country.

The FMST Minster, Ogbonaya Onu, said this on Thursday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE) in his office.

The association, led by its President, Wumi Iledare came to brief the minister of its forthcoming conference scheduled to hold in April.

According to him, the FMST is determined achieve the feat through diversifying sources of energy in the country.

“Because, one of the importance of life is sustainable development and this cannot be unless energy is available, affordable and accessible.

“The ministry and its agencies are working hard to advance technical know-how in the area of solar energy, wind energy, bio-energy, hydro energy among others to boost energy generation in the country,’’ he said.

Onu assured the association of the ministry’s support toward the 10th anniversary conference and Energy Day programmes of the association.

Earlier, NAEE President said that the association came to invite the minister as a key speaker in the conference coming up on April 24.

He said that the focus of the conference would be on the implication of energy affordability, sustainability and security.

“The only link between these is technology and that is what your ministry stands for and technology is so critical to sustainable economy development.

“We want the ministry to partner with us on this tenth anniversary ceremony.

“We hold meetings and conferences each year, which cover energy topics and issues here at home, and discuss how these issues relate to the broader issues of the global energy scene,’’ he said.

NAEE is the Nigerian affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), and has many energy related industries in Nigeria, Africa and the world.

The association strived to increase the understanding of how energy and economics relate to each other, and to provide a forum for the free exchange of these concepts.
