Ibom power company now exports electricity, expertise, says MD
The Ibom Power Company now exports electricity and expertise to neighbouring states as the plant marks 100 days of uninterrupted production.
Victor Udoh, managing director of the company said the plant has been run for hundred days without any forced outage or mistake describing it as a remarkable achievement.
“We have run this plant for a hundred and something days without any mistake from our operators”.
“Gone are the days when we used to depend solely on foreigners as technical experts, today, I am very proud to tell Nigerians that Akwa Ibom people are running this plant.”
Udoh who noted that the importance of capacity building in the industry said the company has instituted an apprenticeship and internship programme to prospective apprentices go through a rigorous interview process and the best candidates are selected to be trained.”
“We have built a capacity ‘pipeline’ such that if someone comes from Odukpani or Alaoji to hire one of our operators and they are willing to pay better, we encourage them to accept because we have a potential replacement” adding that companies are now turning to the power plant for their manpower needs.
“People now come to Ibom Power to recruit power plant experts; we are not exporting house helps anymore, we now export expertise”.
The Ibom Power plant has a capacity of over 400MW but currently generates over 190MW of electricity.
