NDPHC/AZURI’s ‘Beyond the grid’ solar imitative lights up rural Kano

Azuri Technologies in partnership with NDPHC through its ‘beyond the grid’  project has electrified over 1,000 households in the rural off grid Kano communities so far, as active deployment commenced mid-July .

The Federal government-supported initiative is taking Kano by storm and promised to deliver 20,000 solar home systems in ten states as the first phase of reaching the millions of Nigerians currently lacking access to electricity.

Following an extensive sensitisation campaign, the Azuri Quad was launched in Kano in July. The company reports in a statement that interest was high at the various town hall meetings where local communities were directly engaged. Within the first two weeks, over three hundred customers subscribed to have the Quad installed in their homes, showing the hunger for access to clean and affordable energy.

Combining solar energy and mobile phone technology to deliver power, Azuri’s Paygo Quad is delighting rural Kano.

“I am really happy with the product, now we have light here and I bought one for my father and brother so that they can enjoy the light,” said a rice farmer and resident of Yada community in Takai Local government area.

This satisfied customer has also become an Azuri agent in his community validating the company’s approach of empowering rural communities, creating job opportunities and providing them s with extra income.

Another customer in Gaci community of Wudil LGA said his children’s lives had been transformed with the advent of solar powered electricity in the area as they can now study in the evenings.

Azura said that lighting up Kano, community by community is only the start of taking the ‘beyond the grid’ initiative to other rural parts of the Northern Nigeria and indeed the rest of the country.
