New Disco receives 25 transformers to boost power supply in P/Harcourt
Early signs of benefits of selling the power distribution arms of the former Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) have emerged as the management of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has taken possession of 25 units of 500 kva distribution transformers to begin the push for power supply adequacy in the garden city.
Commissioner for power, Augustine Wokocha, who handed over the equipment, has affirmed the commitment of the Rivers State government’s towards stabilising power supply in the state. The state government had attempted to achieve 24-hour power supply feat for years but with the acquisition of the Disco, has gained fresh confidence and is giving a fresh deadline of June 2013.
Wokocha handed over the transformers and assurances at the Trans-Amadi Gas Turbine Station for the replacement of burnt out transformers in the state. He said “as part of our scheme in power stabilisation, we have noticed that some zones in the communities have either burnt-out or over-loaded transformers, and as part of our project, we have provided 280 transformers to be installed in the city as relief or replacement”.
