Greg Nwakogo named ICC Regional Coordinator
Greg Nwakogo has emerged as the Coordinator of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration’s Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF) in Nigeria.
Nwakogo, whose role becomes effective August 18th, 2014, was selected by the YAF Regional Coordinating Committee (Africa, Middle-East and Turkey Chapter), following a call for applications from the International head-quarters of the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum in Paris.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration’s Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF) last week announced the names of the committee members who will coordinate its regional activities for the next two years. By this development, Greg replaces Kolawole Mayomi as Coordinator of ICC Young Arbitrators Forum in Nigeria.
In a formal statement, the outgoing coordinator informed members of the change, stating that Nwakogo will direct the affairs of ICC YAF in Nigeria, henceforth.
“I sincerely thank you for your goodwill and cooperation in building up the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum in Nigeria, and ask that you also extend the same support to the incoming Coordinator, Mr. Greg Nwakogo,” he said.
Greg Nwakogo is one of the seven Regional Chapter Coordinators in charge of the Middle East and Africa Chapter. His appointment as ICC YAF Regional Chapter Coordinator comes barely 3 months after his election as Chairman of the Young Members Group (YMG), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Nigerian Branch. By virtue of his position as Chairman of the YMG, he also became a member of the Executive Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigerian Branch.
Nwakogo is a commercial lawyer; a “Member” of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and Partner at Rosberg Legal Practitioners & Arbitrators.
The ICC YAF provides a forum for young professionals (40 years and under) to learn from experienced practitioners about career development and issues of interest in the field of arbitration, provide opportunities for young professionals to network, and to identify and develop mentor relationships and to educate and expose members to ICC dispute resolution services amongst other things.
The RCC members, representing 30 countries, will be in charge for the next two years of promoting and developing the ICC YAF global network which includes over 7,500 members worldwide. The ICC YAF educational programmes and conferences offer an ideal environment for young practitioners to exchange their views on international arbitration and learn from experts.
In a statement by Jose Feris, ICC YAF Co-Chair and Deputy Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, he said “ICC YAF has significantly expanded over the past years in quantity, diversity and geographical reach. We are delighted to have been able to choose an incredibly divers and talented group of young professionals located throughout the world in response to such expansion. Each of them brings a great deal of energy, experience and new ideas. We look forward to collaborating with them individually and as group to create new synergies that will continue to push our global network forward and build stronger ties among our members”.
