LCA and CPPA to convene policy dialogue on “Evolution of Institutions in Nigeria”
A number of historical factors (economic and political factors included) have influenced the Nation’s present-day institutional arrangements and economic outcomes. Also, remarkable is the evolving interaction between traditional and formal institutions and how they continue to shape Nigeria’s developmental outcomes.
The study and analysis of this evolution of institutions in Nigeria is critical to the progress of the country. This highly relevant and long overdue inquiry is being organised by the Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) and the Centre for Public Policy Alternatives (CPPA) in Nigeria rather than overseas.
To examine to what extent, these two institutions have impacted the modern-day Nigeria and deliberate on the role of traditional institutions in governance and dispute resolution in the past and present Nigeria will form the crux of discussion at the LCA/CPPA Policy Dialogue.
The dialogue is themed, “Institutional Evolution: Impact on the polity and growth of the Nigerian economy” will seek to harmonise the rule of law with traditional dispute resolution mechanisms to revolutionise Nigeria’s competitiveness.
The event will hold on Tuesday 17 October 2017 at the Lagos Court of Arbitration, Lagos at 10.00am. It will have in attendance traditional rulers from the three ethnics groups in Nigeria, academia, ADR experts, legal practitioners; policy advocates, business leaders, members of the diplomatic community, law enforcement officers, as well as others.
The LCA is an independent private sector driven international centre for the resolution of commercial disputes by arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. The LCA is headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria and provides services to local and international parties and the entire sub-Saharan region.
