• The 6th Annual Business Luncheon of SPA Ajibade & Co. takes place today, Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Metropolitan Club, 15 Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Nigeria. The theme of this year’s Business Luncheon is, “The Future of Legal Practice in Nigeria – Achieving Judicial Excellence” and it is the sixth in the series of annual business luncheons the Firm has organized, which are exclusively directed at the legal community. • The second Marginal Fields Forum of the Energy Institute, Nigerian branch, takes place on Friday, 22nd of November 2013 and the theme is, “Value Creation: Standards for the downstream sector of the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry.’’ The first of this Forum took place in June 2013, and was well-attended by marginal field operators, upstream industry stakeholders and other key players in the industry.
The forum will combine high-level discussions with presentations of work by leading professionals in refining, trading, shipping, storage, distribution, regulation and downstream-related professional services.
• The 8th NCMG African ADR Summit is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the Auditorium of the National Judicial Institute in Abuja. Time is between the hours of 9am – 5pm.
OTHER INTERESTING EVENTS AROUND THE GLOBE INCLUDE:
• The IBA Tax Conference on “Rethinking international taxation as we know it: what senior practitioners should learn from younger ones.’’ This event takes place on Friday, November 22nd, 2013 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris, France.
As various nations, regulators and international bodies reassess a number of key parameters and guidelines relating to international and domestic corporate tax, this conference will examine what these changes might mean to practitioners from various jurisdictions involved in the field today, and how they may impact younger practitioners over the next 30 years.
The conference is presented by the IBA Taxes Committee and supported by the IBA European Regional Forum.
• The 7th IBA Law Firm Management Conference comes up on the 29th of November, 2013 at the InterContinental Hotel, Moscow, Russian Federation.
The conference jointly presented by the IBA Law Firm Management Committee and the IBA European Regional Forum in cooperation with LegalStudies RU Initiative, is targeted at Managing partners and lawyers in management, strategic advisers on governance and development, private practitioners, heads of the functionary departments of the law firms, public relations and marketing.
• Also happening next week, is the IV CAM Annual Conference on “THE TRANSNATIONALIZATION OF INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION.” This takes place in Milan on the 29th of November, 2013, from 8.45am -17.00pm.
The IV CAM Annual Conference aims to set a compass for international arbitration practitioners by analyzing the emerging uniformity in the rules governing international arbitration.
While international arbitration retains its roots in national law, there is an increasing convergence between national arbitration laws. At the same time, there is a body of transnational rules and practices applied always more frequently in international arbitrations, and sometimes even in domestic arbitrations.
The speakers will analyze the different trends and the pros and cons of the proliferation of rules, practices, guidelines, etc.
