Media, legal practitioners collaborate to tackle challenges of nationhood

In another development, experts in the media industry will also converge for an uncommon intellectual exchange with legal practitioners in Calabar in a special session put together by the NBA Lawyers in the Media (LIM) Forum for the Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

The session themed “Media, Law and Leadership Challenges in 21st Century Nigeria”, is part of the weeklong activity of the NBA’s Annual General Conference taking place this year in Tinapa, Cross Rivers State.

Speaking about this particular breakout session, the Chairman of the forum, Charles Odenigbo revealed that the forum’s theme is drawn from the general conference theme, “Law, Leadership & Challenges of Nationhood in the 21st Century Nigeria” which addresses the bigger issue of leadership in Nigeria.

“The objective is to tackle the challenges of law and leadership at the very root, whilst offering a broader knowledge of media law and ethics to participants,” Odenigbo said.

The session, which expected to be attended by lawyers from the various media houses in Nigeria, industry leaders in both the media and legal profession, seeks to promote strict adherence to media laws, in a bid to deal with the challenges of the global legal market as it affects nationhood.

“We hope that this will strengthen our effort towards proffering some lasting solutions to the challenges impeding the growth of the Nigerian media,” the chair stated.

Proposed to be at the session, are Demola Osinubi, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Punch Nigeria, Limited), Hon. Justice B. A. Adejumo, President, of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (as Chairman), Larry Izamoje, Chairman, BRILA FM, Richard Akinola, Director, Media Law Centre, Lagos, Edetan Ojo, Director, Media Rights Agenda, amongst others.
