NBA applauds FG over release of 82 Chibok Girls

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has expressed joy at the news of the release of another batch of 82 Chibok girls after being held for 36 months in the stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the association Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, stated, “We note that these girls have regained their freedom as a result of the combined military and diplomatic efforts at ridding the Nigerian territory of the activities of Boko Haram insurgency.

“We are gladdened that the present administration had been working hard to fulfil one of its major campaign promises, that is, to secure the release of Chibok girls from the enclave of the insurgents, decimate the menace of Boko Harm and uphold the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On this score, we say that the Federal Government had performed creditably well,” the statement read.

The leadership of the NBA further praised the gallantry of the Nigerian soldiers under the command of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai and other segments of the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies   for liberating all the local government areas in which the insurgents had hitherto hoisted their flags, throwing the miscreants in disarray and “technically” winning the war against insurgency.

“We also congratulate members of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) Group for their resilience and determination in pursuing a noble cause even in the face of daunting challenges.

“We want to establish the fact that the present freedom being enjoyed by our girls who have regained their liberty is the crowning glory of the sacrifices and sustained efforts made by this group and other conscientious Nigerians who kept alive the advocacy for the release of those held captive by the Insurgents.

The NBA however called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces to continue with the struggle for the release of the remaining Chibok girls and the battle to uproot the last vestiges of the Boko Haram insurgency from the Nigerian soil.
