Nigerian Bar Association hails Ekiti people on election of new governor
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has sent a Congratulatory message to the People of Ekiti State on the just concluded gubernatorial election, which has been described as peaceful, free and fair.
In a press statement to the media, the President of the NBA, Okey Wali, SAN, commended the ‘civic manner’ the election was conducted.
He said: “Congratulations to His Excellency, the Governor-Elect, Mr. Ayo Fayose, on his election and humility in victory, in the very kind words expressed about his co- contestants.
“We must also congratulate the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, for making history in Nigeria, by gracefully conceding defeat and congratulating the Governor–Elect and offering his support in ensuring a seamless transition. That is what it should be. That was most gentlemanly and we hope that other politicians will learn from that part of honour from Governor Fayemi.”
Wali also commended and congratulated the efforts INEC and other security agencies put in to make the election worthwhile, expressing hope that the agencies will build on the successes of Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election.
“May God Bless Ekiti State and May God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded in his statement.
The people of Ekiti on Saturday, June 21, 2014, went to the polls to exercise their civil obligation in electing a new Governor for the State. The election has so far been adjudged free and fair by observers.
