NLS class of 2006 steps out in style for 10th anniversary

The Nigerian Law School (NLS) Class of 2006 recently reunited in commemoration of its 10th anniversary – Post ‘CALL’ (Post admission into practice). The event, which held at the Fourpoints By Sheraton in Victoria Island, Lagos was exclusive to persons who hold a B.L from the Nigerian Law School in the year 2006.

Speaking about the event, Olubukola Olabiyi, a member the NLS Class of 2006 and initiator of the reunion spoke of the event and what it meant to members of the class present at the event.

“It is a private initiative convened with the intent to create an opportunity to reconnect with lawyers called in 2006. As one of our sponsors said, we have reached a milestone in our varied careers and in the position to be ‘captains of our industry” and have a positive influence in our country and its economy,” she said.

She added that the objective of the AlumNet was to foster a close association among its alumni in promoting the practice of law/credible business dealings as well as encouraging networking, and mentorship for young lawyers in legal practice and varied business interests.

Speaking further about class projects under consideration, Olabiyi said these would include assisting young lawyers with internship programs and financial assistance to them.

“Currently, a committee has been set up with alumni from the four law school campuses (as at 2006) from varied business background, tribe and religion,” Olabiyi said.

On planning the reunion, which was attended by over 50 people, she admitted that it was a difficult task reaching out to several members of the class as over 3,000 were ‘CALLED’ that year.

“It is hoped that the dinner will act as a stepping stone for the launch of an effective alumni network (“AlumNet”) open to lawyers called to bar in 2006. We believe that by the next occasion, we will have a fuller house and larger membership.

On a final note, the class organiser expressed deep appreciation to friends of the class who showed great support during the planning; notable among them were, Ayo Owoigbe of Banwo and Ighodalo, Seyi Akinwunmi of Akinwunmi  & Busari and Damilola Adetunji of Odujirin & Adefulu.

Others are, Dr. Adeoye Adefulu also of Odujirin & Adefulu, Yinka Edu of Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie and ‘TheEstherDavid Foundation.

“A number of alumni also support the cause through their corporate organisations such as Danium Energy,” she added.

At the strictly Formal Event, members of the class and their guests were thrilled to music from the year, 2006 with a memory game to test guests’ knowledge of current events also from 2006. Entertainment for the day included a raffle draw co-sponsored by Eclectic Chique; with 10 prizes reminiscent of the law school days spent in the living quarters.
