Obaseki, Irukera join Conversation on Consumer Protection in Benin City
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and the Director-General, Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Tunde Irukera are among dignitaries expected at the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA) Lawyers in the Media ( LIM) Quarterly Roundtable scheduled to hold at the Protea Hotel, Benin-City Edo State on Thursday, September 28, 2017.
The roundtable with the theme” Consumer Protection and Economic Development, the need for Media intervention” will be declared open by Governor Obaseki under the chairmanship of the immediate President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Augustine Alegeh (SAN).
The Director-General of the Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Tunde Irukera will be the Lead speaker, Dean Faculty of Law, University of Benin Prof. Nathaniel Inegbedion will be a Guest speaker, while Mrs. Chinwe Odigboegwu, Head of Litigation at Nigerian Bottling Company and Vice- Chairman NBA Section on Business Law, Mr. Seni Adio ( SAN)Former Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies ( NIALS) Prof. Epiphany Azinge ( SAN), former Dean Post Graduate School, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Prof. A. D. Badaiki and a host of others will be panelists.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe and the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Esohe Ikponwen are also expected to be special Guests at the event. Other distinguished guests at the event include the pioneer chairman of the NBA Section on Business Law, Mr. George Etomi and the chairman of SBL, Mr. Olumide Apata. Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obaseki on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Ifueko Alufohai is also expected to grace the occasion. Chief Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN), Prof. Ernest Ojukwu (SAN), Mazi Afam Obi and representatives of the Young Lawyers Forum are also expected to give goodwill messages at the occasion.
In a chat with the Guardian, the chairman of the NBA Lawyers In the Media (LIM) Forum, Theodora Kio-Lawson said that the essence of the roundtable to drive goals and objectives of the NBA Lawyers in the Media Forum.
“The LIM quarterly event is geared towards law and economical development, with the media as a viable tool and this roundtable will attempt to interrogate critical issues and regulatory challenges in the reform of the Aviation, Food & Beverage and Banking sectors; the competition in these sectors, guidelines, safeguards, rights and interests in consumer protection, the limitations of the Consumer Protection Act, as well as the role of the media” Kio-Lawson stated.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lawyers in the Media (LIM) Forum, consists of members of the legal profession who are also media practitioners in both print and electronic media houses, with the objective of promoting the principles of both professions for the development of society.
To drive home its goals and objectives, the forum holds quarterly roundtables, breakfast meetings and seminars with eminent members of both professions with open invitations to members of the public to confer on topical and developmental issues in the nation at every given time.
