Cadbury recycles waste energy to power refrigeration
In line with its commitment to improve operational efficiencies, Cadbury Nigeria plc has put in place a process to recycle waste heat energy from gas-driven electricity generator to power a refrigeration unit in the company.
This is part of its plan to achieve energy efficiency and cut costs.
Atedo Peterside, chairman, Cadbury Nigeria plc, disclosed this during his 2014 review of the company at the annual general meeting held last Wednesday in Lagos.
According to Peterside, the company’s plant in Ondo State transitioned from using diesel to liquefied gas, a process that led to cost cuts in 2014 and CO2 emission reduction.
While reeling out the achievements of the confectioner in 2014, Peterside said the chocolate maker re-launched Cadbury Buttermint and ‘Cadbury Hot Chocolate 3 in 1 Drink’ within the year, stressing that the firm’s Ikeja and Ondo plants secured Global Efficiency (GE) awards from Mondelēz International, its parent company.
“As part of our expansion strategy, our state-of-the-art food drinks factory was commissioned during the second half of the year,” he said.
“We carried out various consumer-engagement programmes to maximise opportunities in the market place,” he added.
Cadbury Nigeria plc produces Bournvita, Tom Tom, Tang and Buttermint, among others.
