Krispy Kreme debuts in Nigeria’s food industry
Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, global producers of doughnuts and coffee, has emerged as a strong payer in Nigeria’s food and beverage industry with a billion dollars worth investment.
The investment, which has already provided jobs for 200 Nigerians in two outlets on the mainland and island, will provide consumers with several doughnut varieties and Nigerian blended coffee.
Speaking with journalists during the launch, Anson Markel, director international franchise corporation, Kripsy Kreme, said “This is our first production store in West Africa. We believe with our consistency and global recipe we would be able to penetrate the Nigerian market. We know that people in Nigeria like quality and that is what we are bringing to the table.”
“We produce 110 dozens of doughnuts per hour. We source our coffee beans locally and it is roasted and blended in Nigeria,” Markel said.
He stated that the organisation takes pride in its quality and nutritional value. “Our doughnuts are produced according to strict quality standards just like they are being produced in California,” he said.
Also speaking at the launch, Alexander Trotter, non executive director, Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, said “What we are doing is unveiling our doughnut brands in Nigeria. We have made significant investments with money and with people. Some of our 200 employees are getting trainings.”
“We are excited to be expanding into Nigeria, and we are looking at other cuisines over the next few years. Our expansion into Nigeria is informed by the potential in the domestic market.
“Overtime, we want to grow the franchise business. I have great confidence in the Nigerian market because it is very huge and a market where people like doughnuts,” Trotter said.
The company is sourcing its sugar and coffee locally, which will enhance the country’s local input content.
“We are so proud to bring awesome doughnuts to the most vibrant city in Africa and Africa’s largest economy. We are really excited to spread the joy of Krispy Kreme,” Busayo Awosiyan, marketing manager, Quality Food Africa, said.
