Manufacturers ready for expo as Lagos pledges support

The Lagos State government is throwing its weight behind the plan by a foreign firm to host the 2018 West Africa Waste Water Technologies Expo.

During a courtesy visit, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, Lagos State commissioner for environment, said that the importance of water to the residents of Lagos cannot be swept under the carpet.

Durosinmi-Etti stressed that exploration of technology to improve and bridge the quality gap of water supply is pertinent.

“We have listened to your request, and we are excited. Lagos is surrounded by water. Some call it the land of aquatic splendor. We also know that Lagos with the teeming population of 20 to 25 million is also a natural destination for this expo.”

“And that is not to forget the importance of water in terms of portable drinking water. Yes, technology is key in bringing water out to people in communities, not only in Lagos but also in various parts of Nigeria,” he said.

On their part, water packagers say they are ready for the expo.

A water processing and packaging firm in Lagos told Real Sector Watch that the expo would likely bring in better technologies needed in water sanitation.

The manufacturer said such expos are necessary to enlighten water producers and stakeholders in the value chain on new trends and sanitation mechanisms in the industry.

According to Jude Chime, project coordinator of Elan Expo Nigeria, the event promises to rally all stakeholders in the water and waste management sector to see how they can increase participation in the areas of water supply, distribution, sanitation, and recent technologies in the waste water sector.

Chime said more than 70 manufacturers and water packagers are expected at the event.
