Nigerian-American Chamber holds conference to unlock global competitiveness of food industry
The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce is set to host the African Food and Products Conference and Exhibition with a view to boosting the non-oil sector of the economy and support global competitiveness of the local food and beverage industry.
The event themed ‘Unlocking Market Opportunities for Global Competitiveness’ is slated for 26th and 27Tth of May 2017 in Lagos and is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
According to Joyce Akpata, director general of the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, this year’s African Food and Products Conference and Exhibition would feature a special focus on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) – an initiative of the United States to encourage duty free exports of over 6,400 different product lines from eligible Sub-Saharan African countries into the United States.
Akpata said the event would attract over 1,500 attendees from within Nigeria and the United States, thus presenting a viable opportunity for exhibiting companies to boost their visibility, open new business opportunities and grow their earnings.
“This event will also present a great opportunity to meet with international buyers as it attracts C-Level executives, key decision and policy makers from leading Nigerian and American companies,” Akpata said in a statement mailed to Real Sector Watch.
The event is expected to be attended by Okechukwu Enelamah, minister of industry, trade and investment, and Stuart Symington, U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, who will be the special guest of honour.
Akinwumi Ambode, governor of Lagos State, state commissioners of trade & investments, managing directors/CEOs of financial institutions, key resource persons and strategic partners within the Nigerian export and investment promotion sectors, are expected to attend.
“The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce is always looking for ways to promote trade and investment between the Nigeria and the United States of American, hence we are excited to be organising this event,” the DG said.
