We introduce new weighing scales in Osun to curb sharp practices – Govt.

Osun state Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Adekunle Jayeoba-Alagbada, has said the standardized weighing scale introduced by government across commodity markets in the state to curb sharp practices and mitigate duplicity noticeable in commercial transactions.

Jayeoba-Alagbada said in order to erase cheating in the process of exchange of commercial goods and checkmate other market forces challenges, government decided to formally introduce the standardized weighing scales.

Alagbada, who spoke in Osogbo, at a sensitization and training on the use of the new standard scales at Igbonna market in Osogbo, maintained that the Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Cooperatives is saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the day-to-day administration of the enforcement, and therefore, we do everything to ensure there is value for money on any transactions in the state.
He said, “I need to emphasize that market men and women had been fully mobilized to key into this emerging commercial revolution.

“Both the leadership and the followership of the Associations of market women and men had agreed, not only to comply with the right use of the scales and measures, but to continuously carry out peer reviews with a view to ensuring flawless implementation of the standardised weighing scales and measures programme.

“I want to place it on record that, but for the grace of God and the dogged determination of Mr. Governor, this launch and indeed the entire standardised scales and measures programme would have been a mirage.”

Responding, the leader of market men, who is also the Babaloja of the state, David Iyiola commended the State government under the leadership of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the innovation, just as he described as unprecedented.
He said the gesture has saved them from cheating and being cheat adding that the use of measuring scales is beneficial to both the sellers and buyers.

While assuring that the market men and women are prepared to embrace the use of new standard scale, Iyiola noted that the incessant quarrel which normally accompanied usage of old modes of measuring products had gone forever.
