Ajimobi commends media contribution to national development
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has described journalists as essential agents in the development of democracy and good governance.
Speaking at his investiture as the Grand Patron of League of Veteran Journalists, which took place at the state executive council chambers, the governor said journalists had continued to play positive roles in many aspects of national development, not only impacting knowledge and information, but also in encouraging the people to participate in politics.
Ajimobi, who attributed the various achievements recorded by his administration to the support of journalists and the league of veteran journalists in the state, said his transformation agenda had been very successful through the tremendous cooperation and support of journalists.
Oyo State chief executive, while thanking the veteran journalists for the honour, described the gesture as a priceless privilege, saying “it is a priceless privilege for me to be invested with the award of the Grand Patron and to be the first governor to be honoured by men of honour who had been constantly engaged in the constructive criticism of what we are doing in government. For me, it is a honour that I will continue to cherish for the rest of my life.”
The governor assured the people of the state that his administration would not relent in the provision of social infrastructure, which he said had been upgraded to 85 percent by his administration, including provision of potable water, quality education and healthcare delivery.
The governor, at the occasion, also said his administration had concluded arrangement for the establishment of three model schools in the state, adding that intake of students into the college would commence in September this year.
In his remarks, Kola Animashaun, the state chairman of the league, said the investiture of the governor as grand patron of the league was informed by the laudable achievements the transformation agenda of his administration had brought to the lives of the entire people of the state.
“We are here to celebrate a man of the moment for his various laudable achievements and to express appreciation for the support of his administration to the league. I wish to declare that the league had never had it so good. This is the first time in the history of the league that we will be officially investing a governor as grand patron. We applaud and extol achievements of Governor Abiola Ajimobi because they have successfully stood the test of time in transition from aspiration to realities.”
He said the transportation system of the Ajimobi administration had made life easier for commuters, stating that people can now give a time rate to move from one part of the city to another as traffic congestion had become a thing of the past.
