Journalist, student clinch prizes at Star raffle draw

The first of 100 ‘Win and Shine’ parties through which Star beer will reward consumers in its ongoing promotion was held recently in Lagos, where the brand lovers went home with cash and other exciting prizes such as LED TVs, DVD home theatres, Blackberry phones and jerseys.

The night’s big winners were however James Francis Enikuomehuin, a student, and Ikem Okuhu, a journalist with Vanguard newspapers. Their raffle tickets won them cash prizes of N100,000 each. Enikuomehuin was however the luckier as two of his raffle tickets won him N100,000 each, hence his bounty totalled N200,000.

Enikuomehuin, an undergraduate, was highly elated. He said: “My target was to win a LED TV not something this big. I can’t even explain how elated I’m as I speak. Right now, I’m just going to deposit the money and calm my nerves. It will definitely help in sorting out some of my school expenses and that means taking some load off my parents.”

The 200-level student of Chemical Science at the Olabisi Onabanjo University said he would fund part of his education from his largesse.

Ikem Okuhu said he had lost hope of winning any prize after several promos. Okuhu noted: “Honestly, I had given up hope. I was no longer expecting to get anything after several numbers had been called out and I didn’t hear mine. It was almost unbelievable when I heard my number and name.”

The veteran journalist also described the promo mechanics as remarkable, saying “the interesting thing about this promo is that it is instant, transparent, open and the prizes are mostly high-end.”

In total, numerous Star consumers carted home 50 high net-worth prizes. Some of the other winners of the evening were Bolaji Babawale, an engineer who won N50,000; Lekan Ashimi, an upcoming musical act, who won a DVD home theatre; Johnny Abboud, a Lebanese and Spar operator, who walked home with a Star branded carpet, and Eze Chuks Spencer, a fisheries student of University of Benin, who went home with Manchester United jersey.

Speaking about his winning, Bolaji Babawale said he simply accompanied his friends to have a fun night. “I never expected to win anything this night because I never win in promos. I even gave out one of my tickets to my friend but here I’m with N50,000.”
