Ogun partners US on media development
As part of efforts towards improving human capacity development of its work force, the Ogun State government in conjunction with the United States of America Embassy in Nigeria, has concluded plans to conduct a-four day media capacity development workshop for information managers in the state.
Yusuph Olaniyonu, the state commissioner for information and strategy, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, on various achievements of the ministry, said the programme was facilitated by the state government through the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ministry of Information Chapel to sharpen information officers’ reportorial and editorial skills.
According to Olaniyonu, the programme sponsored by the US Embassy is in fulfilment of the present administration’s policy at prioritising continuous training of its media work force towards achieving optimal output in line with their official duties.
The training programme is designed to accommodate information managers from the South West, the commissioner said, adding that the workshop is aimed at improving better projection of the five cardinal programmes of Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration.
Constant utilisation of effective media management and strategies have been a major contributor to the success achieved by the present administration in the last two years, he said, saying continuous execution of laudable projects and constant interaction with the populace at all levels have been the brain behind acceptability of various government projects across the state.
He noted that over N2 billion had been expended on the state-owned media houses for the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment to meet the 2015 digital technology deadline by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), saying various formal and informal communication strategies had been evolved to keep the populace abreast of governmental activities, which he said had yielded favourable feedback.
