Top 50 brands in Nigeria emerge
About 120 million Nigerians have selected the top 50 brands in Nigeria with MTN, Coca-Cola Nigeria and First Bank plc leading in the popularity evaluation.
Some of the considerations for the selection of the 50 brands were brand visibility, clarity of vision, market acceptability, values, customer service, healthiness and contribution to national development.
According to evaluators of the process, a lot of brands are nominated but after thorough evaluation of brand promises and equity, the number reduced to 100 most popular brands in Nigeria from which 50 emerged as top brands.
This evaluation was carried out by APT Brand International Limited, a foremost brand analysis and review company, in association with Vconnect Global Services Limited and the Certificate Board of Administrators of Nigeria.
Speaking at the unveiling of the top 50 brands in Nigeria 2013 and presentation of the Brand Nigeria Annual Journal, Taiwo Oluboyede, project co-ordinator, Top 50 Brands Nigeria, said for the popularity test, a shuffling online evaluation software was created, which allowed members of the public to select their preferred brands, adding that each of the brands was represented by their logo for easy identification.
“We also have phone system in which you could just dial a brand’s assigned unique code to select it. This allowed over 120 million phone users in Nigeria to participate in the survey,” Olubayode said.
Profile of the top 50 brands has been published in the Brand Nigeria Annual Journal, which is meant to inform the public about these companies and what they do. Also, in the journal is a special feature called “Brands to watch,” which are significant vibrant brands with lots of promises.
