4,431 youths benefit from World Bank, EU programme in Delta
Benson Ojoko, Coordinator, State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR) Programme in Delta, says 4,431 youths in the state have been employed by the scheme in the last three years.
Ojoko told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Sunday that 1,386 males and 3,045 females benefited from the World Bank and the European Union (EU) intervention programme.
He said that youths were engaged in various jobs which included sweeping of major roads, cleaning of drains, road maintenance and refuse disposal in different parts of the state.
The coordinator said the youths were deployed to work in Oshimili South, Uvwie, Udu, Sapele, Warri South and Ughelli North local government areas.
According to him, some of the beneficiaries of the programme are graduates of tertiary institutions who supervise others in the different areas of engagement.
Ojoko said that the project which was piloted in six local government areas of the state had been a huge success.
The coordinator also said that approval had been given for the extension of the project to the other19 local government areas in the state.
He further said that the programme would engage additional 880 youths under its public works scheme to serve in 12 locations in the state.
According to him, the first batch of beneficiaries of the public work project had already been selected from different parts of the state. (NAN)
