Asseco to provide technology solutions to enterprises

Asseco Nigeria, a subsidiary of the global technology heavyweight, Asseco Group in Europe has been launched in Nigeria recently to provide technological solutions to enterprises as well as the finance and public sector.

At the launch of Asseco Nigeria to the media weekend in Lagos, Simon Melchior, Asseco Nigeria’s chief executive officer, stated that the Asseco Group, which is the number one technology company in Poland and the sixth largest in Europe, provides comprehensive proprietary IT solutions for all sectors of the economy such as state of the art products for the banking, as well as small and medium size enterprises.

Adefolu Majekodunmi, Asseco Nigeria’s managing director said “The enterprise space is a key area for us.” He explained that the company is out to provide dedicated solutions in the areas of telecommunication, energy, utilities, gas, manufacturing, trade and services, fast moving consumer goods, and multimedia.

Majekodunmi stressed that the company would be driving local content in the software industry in Nigeria with its independence and development team. He said, “Many organisations just look to provide their own products but we would do both. We would not just bring in products but build local products and solutions for the Nigerian public and private sector.”

Emilomo Ogunboye, representative of the federal ministry of power at the launch stated that the ministry is collaborating with Asseco to ensure that the country is lighted up in the next few years through existing generating and distributing companies as well as new and smaller ones to emerge. “On the wheel of privatisation, the ministry of power has been encouraging private companies to regenerate power using renewable energy to feed the masses outside the national grid, if the private sector works very hard within the time frame given them we would ensure that every home would be lighted, getting the services to the rural areas, they would no longer be waiting for the national grid. Individuals could generate power from solar, wind, coal, depending on their location and the resources available in the region or state.”

Melchior, the Asseco Nigeria CEO assured that the company has software that can make the business  of providing power profitable for companies. He said, “Power distribution is a very cost intensive venture, distribution companies have fixed costs.” He said most power distribution companies incur losses from customers not paying and tapping electricity. “We focus on the revenue generation aspects which is the billing,” he stated.

According to them, if power distribution companies internalise the solutions provided by Asseco, they would be more efficient in their revenue generation and have more customers. This way, it would be easier for existing and even new private companies producing power independent of the national grid to run profitably, this is part of the possibilities Asseco technology solutions has for businesses in the energy sector.
