Empowering female entrepreneurs with technology
The U.S Consulate in Victoria Island opened its doors to a female conference held last week themed: ‘Technology & Entrepreneurship Programme for Women’.
The event put together by W.TEC in conjunction with Union Group, Leadway Assurance, Global shapers Community and U.S Consulate, brought together experts who to women on ways they can run their businesses better in the new technology age.
“We have programmed the activities of today to help inspire because we want the best of women, no matter what it is, it is possible if we believe. Nigeria would not succeed without women because they are the back bones of the society, we also have exchange programmes for people to go to America and attend, and we are also looking for more partnership to expand,” said Rhanda Watson of the U.S Consulate.
Entrepreneurs were encouraged to get familiar with business building blocks closely relating to their businesses, drawing and following their mind maps will be used to relate the blocks and their factors, attributes. Also telling them of the importance to have a vision and a mission of their business and to set goals which they need to achieve within a stated period of years.
Using social media for business was handled by Elda David Samuel of W.TEC, putting the female entrepreneurs through on: how social media can help business, picking the right tool for your business such as; Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Blog, Pin Interest, LinkedIn. And how important it is to know what e share and put out there, rather than using it for mere fun can but can turn it to be more serious too.
Shade Koya, an entrepreneur said “I am really glad I got the opportunity to be here today and learn new things, now I can use more social medias to enhance my brand and to connect more with clients. I was never really a serious social media fan but having seen the importance and learnt how to sync accounts and strengthen my profile I will definitely say today was worth the while’.
The ‘Technology & Entrepreneurship Programme for Women’ also shared with the participants on: harnessing and utilizing technology effectively for business success, starting, managing and growing a business, talking business and also how to create a business portfolio and presentation using MS Power point.
Oreoluwa Lesi, CEO of W.TEC, said it is very important that more women into working with technology and their fellow women. “Some women who run small and medium enterprises have challenges in using technology, so we want to show women how they can use technology to identify and empower their business and also use it more to enhance growth, she said.
