Emzor, May & Baker, Neimeth, Purechem’s staff ranks swell by 28,415
The appeal for the manufacturing sector to create more employment opportunities for millions of jobless Nigerians is beginning to yield results as players in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector engaged an additional 28,415 workers by end of 2013.
This brings the estimated total of additional workers in this industry between 2012 and 2013 to 127,751, as 99,336 workforces were added in the first and second half of 2012. By implication, while 99,336 workers were added in 2012, the total addition in 2013 were 28,415, July to December 2013 Economic Review of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has shown.
Research has shown that members of the association who created this employment include Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited; May & Baker Nigeria plc; Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals plc; Glaxo Smithkline Consumer Nigeria plc; Juhel Nigeria Limited; Bio-Organics Nutrient Systems Limited (pharmaceutical category); Purechem Manufacturing Limited; S. I. L. Chemicals Limited, and Unikem Industries Limited (chemical category), among others.
Similarly, players in the domestic/industrial plastic and rubber added a total number of 28,161 workforces in 2013. This compares with 160,326 workers added in 2012. In total, 188,487 workers were added in the industry in both 2012 and 2013, the review reveals.
Players in this sector include Sapele Integrated, West African Rubber Products (Nigeria) Limited, Bally Plastics and Footwear Industries (Nigeria) Limited, Decent Bag Industries Limited, and Standard Plastics Industry (Nigeria) Limited, among others.
