Future looks good for Aboyeji after founding Flutterwave
The future looks pretty good for Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, the co-founder of Andela and founder of Flutterwave.
Aboyeji announced his exit from Andela in August 2016 to focus on Flutterwave, which enables merchants to make and receive payments across multiple platforms.
The firm believes it can send money to over 100 million cards, 135 million bank accounts and 80 million mobile money wallets across Africa from anywhere in the world.
It also says it can enable people to pay bills and buy airtime across Africa from anywhere in the world.
Its end-to-end payments infrastructure covers all aspects of processing payments; from providing the Payments Gateway API to managing payments risks and settlement, reducing the need for multiple legacy payment gateway integrations that increase the risk of failed payments.
“I think his future looks bright. The firm is coming up fast, despite being a start-up,” said a source close to the online payment platform.
Aboyeji, the co-founder of Andela, left after the start-up Andela raised $24 million from the Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Foundation.
Andela, currently making a global impact, trains and deploys software developers.
According to Aboyeji, the idea of Andela started in 2013, when he, Ian Carnevale, Nadayar, and Brice started Fora, a distance learning platform for African universities.
In early 2014, it became clear that Fora wasn’t working as they could not raise the needed capital. After a long dry spell chasing elusive investors in Nigeria, they finally raised a small round from Extreme Startups (now Highline V.C).
They had two options at this point: continue with Fora or die.
At a place in New York called Fresh and Co., the idea of Andela was birthed.
Shortly after, Christina Sass, joined, after dropping out of her PhD program at Harvard.
They subsequently wound down Fora and created a totally separate company called Andela, with Jeremy, Christina, and the four co-founders of Fora — Ian, Nadayar, Brice and Aboyeji.
