LCCI creates platform for SMEs development, job creation

As part of the plans to develop and expand the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMES) as well as create employment, the Lagos Commerce Chamber and Industry (LCCI) has held its member’s exhibition day.

Speaking at the exhibition center, Nike Akande, president of LCCI, said she was particular about the chamber’s members as she would want them to network and do a bit of marketing.

“A lot of the entrepreneurs are exhibiting their products; a lot of them have been trained during our mentoring group and now they are now proprietors of their own businesses,” Akande said.

“The LCCI has been vocal in the business of exhibition and trade promotion for several decades with our flagship trade promotion activity being the annual Lagos International Trade Fair, renowned as the biggest and the best in the West African sub-region. LCCI Membership Day is designed to provide an interactive platform aimed at consolidating the gains of the yearly trade fair and that of other sectoral meetings and conferences,” she stated.

“As the largest and most diversified private sector group in the country, we see great investment of opportunities coming from stronger business alliances among our members through a robust member’s day,” she stated.

Rotimi Ogunleye, Lagos State commissioner for commerce, industry and cooperatives, commended the efforts of the members and their responsible commitment towards job creation in the state.

“Despite myriad of challenges faced by entrepreneurs all over the country, members have continued to exhibit an uncanny resilience in weathering the storm and get their businesses a float,” Ogunleye said.

“It is for this reason that we in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives have decided to join the leadership of the chamber in celebrating its membership by bringing them together in this manner and allowing them showcase their innovative products for people to see results of doggedness in this,” he added.
