NECA’s women network organises entrepreneurial training for teenagers
Catching them young! Teenagers will be receiving regular entrepreneurial education in one day training organised by the business women network under the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).
The network, called NECA Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), launched the first edition of the teenage entrepreneurial training about four months ago and subsequently is holding the second and third editions.
According to Edobong Akpabio, these series of training tagged ‘NNEW Teenpreneurship’ is the most educative, leadership and entrepreneurship development programme for teenagers between ages 11 and 19 years.
She says, “Teenpreneurship 101 will offer participants who missed the first edition the opportunity to develop strong entrepreneurship skills for the future, while Teenpreneurship 102 is to upgrade the knowledge of teenagers who attended the first edition. The trainings will entail practical business training sessions, mentoring by the members of NNEW, workshops, group assignments and business games.”
Teenpreneurship 101 and 102 will take place at the NECA house in Ikeja, Lagos, Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, September 5, respectively, from 10am to 4pm.
Virtually fully subsidised, Jean Chukwura, secretary general, NNEW, says the training simply involves registration fee of N1,000 to be paid by the parents or guardian of the teenager.
Established in 2005, under the aegis of the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NNEW’s mandate is to promote entrepreneurship among women through training, mentoring, facilitation to markets such as exhibitions, networking meetings and so on. With a membership of over 300 women all over the country and a complete commitment to its purpose, many members’ businesses have experienced remarkable growth in the midst of the challenges of doing business in Nigeria.
NNEW Teenpreneurship, which is for both male and female teenagers, is part of NNEW’s objective at promoting entrepreneurship in the county. NNEW also organises programmes on opportunities for entrepreneurship in the different sectors of the economy such as oil and gas.
