NESA set to build capacity, skills in startups
New Economy Skills Acquisition (NESA), an organisation which helps people acquire relevant new economy skills, and to build a bridge between those skills and potentially life-changing opportunities have disclosed programmes to build capacity for startups in Nigeria.
Obinna Ukwuani NESA co-founder said in a statement that this is part of their efforts in equipping young people with the skills they need to maximise their capacity and create value for themselves, their loved ones, and society at large.
“Our first course – full-stack web development (FSWD) – is an intensive, full-time, six-month introduction to designing and building web applications.
“The first three months will be a focused, project-based academic experience designed to get students up to speed, and the last three months will be a work period where students work on real projects for real companies and have an opportunity to earn as a developer before graduating from NESA,” Ukwuani said in a release issued to BusinessDay.
According to him, students will leave the program with a grasp of languages such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript, PHP/SQL, and frameworks such as ReactJS, Laravel, and Bootstrap.
Ukwuani assured that students will learn the most relevant skills face-to-face from seasoned software development professionals, access a pool of mentors from tech ecosystems around the world, build real web applications, work on live software projects from real companies and build a robust developer portfolio and receive career support and find employment opportunities.
On the payment structure, Lotte Elsa Goos, the co-founder of the organisation said that students can make two installments payment plans for the FSWB program, thereby making the program accessible for all.
“Students can pay the lowest upfront amount by selecting Plan N2 for N100K per month over three months.
As a skilled developer, your earning potential will dwarf your self-investment in time.
“At the end of the six-month program, we will work with our graduates who have demonstrated an adequate level of proficiency to find employment opportunities. These could be full-time or contract-based employment and project opportunities. Graduates will be qualified for web development roles, and will have a strong enough foundation to learn quickly and rise to higher levels of responsibility and compensation,” Elsa Goos added.
The first cohort begins classes at the end of May ’17 in Yaba, Lagos.
She also said the organisation was seeking three software partners to develop their web or mobile application.
“Our seasoned engineers will own the process, while our students will contribute as part of their learning experience,” she added.
