NIBSS moves to empower young artists in university

The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has disclosed its plans to empower young artists in universities as a way of reducing unemployment rate as well as promoting financial inclusion.
NIBSS is currently carrying out a retrofit of her head office complex at plot 1230 Ahmadu Bello way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The company is looking to complement the new look with a collection of diverse local art works. The firm’s intension is to provide young student artists the opportunity of having their works adorn the wall of NIBSS.
Adebisi Shonubi, managing director/CEO, NIBSS said the company will commission the artists’ briefs that best reflect the themes being promoted, adding that a grant will be given to commission the artwork. The theme for the NIBSS art competition is encouraging the youths, building the future.
“We are revamping the building. What we tend to do in addition to outside is that we want to be very warm and welcome. To help that we usually have pieces of artwork in the buildings. We want to take that opportunity to encourage young people to start showcasing what they have”, he said.
The firm expects an interplay of relief features with water movement using sustainable materials, lighting, nature, inorganic forms among others in expressing the concept and a bit of magic.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Shonubi said there are about 40 to 50 pieces of arts in the building.
“We don’t want to deal with any known artist. We are starting an art competition and it is open to anyone who is in the university. We are going to verify that they truly are from the university”, he added.
Space allocation for the feature us 6.8m wide x 3.15m height, maximum base or pool extension 0.8m.
The wall art graphics can be any of paintings, sculpting, banner/posters, photography, wall relief, digital graphics and wall murals.
Entries submission will take place from September 21 to 30, 2016. Work will be selected from online submission only. The juror will view all images in an anonymous manner. Jury results will be posted on www.nibsscompetittion.com.ng.
