Posh beats peers on product quality, design, distribution
Hair and hand dryers as well as trolleys of different shapes produced by Posh International Company Limited have beaten competitors in terms of durability, design and efficiency in the distribution network, Real Sector Watch learns from the company.
“I am happy to tell you that our local products have competed favourably with those of Asians and Europeans. In Cameroon, we are champions. China has no footing there. Our designs, which are products of R&D, have not been matched by our competitors,’’ said Dom Opara, general manager, Posh International, in an interview with Real Sector Watch.
“Our competitors have tried to imitate us, but they are often unable to do so. This is why we have a network of distributors in Ghana, Cameroon and we have people begging in other ECOWAS market to become our distributors. The consumers have pocket-friendly products from us, which last for a very long time,’’ he said.
Posh International, based in Lagos, is one of the few manufacturers of salon equipment in the country. The firm began in 1988, and has gained some measure of local acceptance among salon operators. Findings show some of its products, in spite of durability, cost three times less than those of Europeans and Asians. The firm recently invented a product called ‘Mango’ and gives three years warranty to its customers.
But locally, the company has not found the level of acceptance they get abroad as competitors keep resorting to importation of substandard products in the Nigerian market.
“The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has been of help in trade facilitation. But our operational capacity is still as low as 25 percent due to influx of substandard goods. So, we appeal that government should checkmate this,’’ he added.
