Women are active players in entrepreneurship in both public, private sectors of nation’s economy – Ortom

Wife of Benue State governor, Eunice Ortom, has stressed the need for women to play active role in entrepreneurship as well as other public and private sector areas that would add value to the nation’s economy.
Ortom, who stated this while speaking during the maiden edition of Benue Women Economic Summit in Makurdi, said women were active players in entrepreneurship in both public and private sectors of the nation’s economy.
She noted that, at this time the nation was moving away from oil as sole earning commodity, women must evolve creative ways of surviving the difficult times.
The governor’s wife said the summit with the theme, ‘Promoting the Rise of the Female Economy,’ aims at providing a platform for appraising all issues and challenges that arise in promoting the female economy.
According to Ortom, it will create an opportunity for Benue women to share the challenges hampering their access and participation in business and forge new partnerships that will scale up successful initiatives that benefit Benue women in business.
She said the summit would provide opportunity to initiate dialogue with regulators, financial institutions and the business community on how to create more friendly conditions for Benue women in business.
While declaring the workshop open, Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom promised that his government will continue to support programs that will empower Benue women even as he announced that sixty percent of N2 billion Bank of Industry (BoI) loan would be given to women as way of empowering them economically.
Ortom restated the commitment of his administration to promote micro, medium and small-scale enterprises to thrive in the state.
